One can sense the colonial rage of western political elites at the Palestinian resistance for blowing up ‘the Abraham Accords’ which they were close to finalizing with their client regimes in the region. Thus all Palestinians must now be punished. Another factor in the US and EU complicity in the ongoing genocide is the eager willingness of political elites and media to uncritically accept lurid and unverified stories of atrocities committed by the resistance, betraying a deep seated racism against Arabs in general and Palestinians in particular.

Is it also about sending a signal to the non-Western majority of humanity? Are we telling them how far we will go when challenged in our undeserved, much abused, and declining position of hegemony?

Yes, see the USA's Vietnam war, especially in the latter phases when it became clear the US would lose the war. This war of course was an extension of Western colonialism. So too is Palestine, another colonial brief the USA - itself the highest collective product of that colonialism - picked up from the Western Europeans, this time from Britain.
